32teeth's Toothbrush tail uses the nRF52832 SoC to meet demanding wireless connectivity and processing needs
Nordic Semiconductor announced that 32teeth, an oral health technology company in Shenzhen, has launched a “toothbrush tail” smart toothbrush solution that teaches users how to brush their teeth properly. The toothbrush tail uses Nordic's nRF52832 system-on-chip (SoC) to provide a Bluetooth® low energy wireless connection, formerly known as Bluetooth Smart, while meeting the demanding performance requirements of this application.
The toothbrush tail is made of food-grade silicone material and has a diameter of 20mm. It can be attached to the handle of almost any standard toothbrush. It can track the user's brushing movement through the integrated nine-axis gyroscope, accelerometer and magnetometer sensor, and record the user's brushing movement. Speed, as well as the attitude and spatial position of the toothbrush, to completely restore the user's real brushing action.
These data are transmitted via Bluetooth low-cost connectivity to Bluetooth 4.0 (or newer) iOS or Android smartphones, allowing consumers to evaluate their teeth cleaning performance using the matching 32teeth app according to industry standard Bass brushing methods. This app provides suggestions for improving tooth cleaning, including how to avoid brushing your teeth during brushing, as well as the frequency and regularity of brushing. It also provides a guide video for the user to watch before using the toothbrush tail for the first time. The method correctly cleans the teeth. With this app, users can not only monitor their brushing “scores”, but also the scores of other members of the family, allowing parents to effectively monitor their child's brushing, such as whether the child is serious in brushing their teeth early or late.
The toothbrush tail uses an 80mAh lithium-ion battery that can be used for about 45 days after charging, and the ultra-low power consumption of the nRF52832 SoC device is one of the reasons for excellent battery life. The nRF52832 device is engineered to minimize power consumption, with a 2.4 GHz peak RX/TX current of 2.4 GHz radio and a fully automated power management system. Compared to Nordic's nRF51 family of SoC devices, this low-power Bluetooth solution can reduce power consumption by up to 80% and deliver 90 CoreMark/mA performance, twice the power of competing devices.
